With an annual pass for the Catalina Mountains, Peppersauce is our regular go to place. A hidden valley of sycamore (and walnut trees(?)) this campground had tons of shade and offered a nice break from the desert landscape surrounding. At $10 a night, it was well priced. Occasionally there is water that flows through the creek, but for the most part is dry but cool. About 45 minutes out of Tucson I suggest for most go through Oracle, for the more adventurous you can explore Reddington Pass (4 wheels only).
Quiet, picnic tables on every tent place, drinking water on site, restrooms , family friendly, good place, you can do horse riding
